Common name:Hind's Nightshade, Sonoran Nightsha
Botanical name:Solanum hindsianum
Solanum hindsianum is a medium sized desert shrub with 2" purple flowers and grey leaves. The Hind's Nightshade grows 6-8 feet tall and wide. Solanum hindsianum blooms with clusters of purple flowers from late Summer into Mid Spring. Solanum hindsianum is native to the Sonoran Desert, Baja California and into Arizona. It is worth noting Solanum hindsianum has small thorns hiding under some of those leaves. Full sun, decent drainage and low water are all important. Solanum hindsianum responds well to tip pruning to keep the plants dense. Solanum hindsianum is Winter hardy to 25°F though it will show damage with even a light frost.
