Alstroemeria psittacina
Inca Lily.Parrot Lily
Description
This attractive perennial, grown from tubers, can reach 2-3' tall and 2' wide, but will continue to spread in warm, frost free areas. During spring, straight up stalks shoot up with pale green curled leaves which end up twisting. During summer, small red buds appear on the tips of the stalks, petals opening up to reveal streaks of crimson and green. Hummingbirds love this plant! Great for a tropical effect. This plant does well in full sun but needs afternoon shade in warm inland valleys. It needs well draining, acidic, rich soil. Considered invasive in many areas as it will self-seed unless flowers are removed after bloom period.
