Fraxinus uhdei 'Orange County'
Shamel Ash, Orange County
Description
This semi-evergreen tree is both upright and narrow when young, but assumes a spreading oval form when older. Since it is shallow rooted, deep waterings are essential for deeper rootings. When the tree is young, any long, unsightly branches should be cut back. Leaves are actually leaflets, deep green in color. Flowers are considered insignificant. It can reach 50' tall and 35' wide quickly. It does best in full sun with regular amount of watering. It can be grown in desert areas with watering. Pollen is a problem for some folks in spring. Considered messy with leaf drop in some areas.

Change spray sprinklers to low-flow bubbler or drip systems. Shrubs and trees are ideal candidates for this type of irrigation because the water is applied directly to the root zones.
