Cedrus libani
Cedar of Lebanon
Description
This tree will slowly grow 40'-60' tall and wide. Young trees have smooth, grayish brown bark but will mature to a furrowed texture and darker color. Foliage is actually evergreen short needles that are dark gray or gray green. Its cones start off as green or purple color, changing to reddish brown. Cones are quite conspicuous as they are 4" long and 3" in diameter and resinous. This conifer does best in full sun with well draining, acidic, loamy, moist soil. When well established, it can be drought tolerant. Do not plant in windy areas. Mature trees have a pyramidal shape.
